Our Mission

Our mission is to explore the soul of the Indonesian archipelago aboard a vessel that truly belongs to these waters.

KLM Batara Baruna is built to reflect the strength, grace, and harmony of the sea— combining traditional maritime heritage with modern comfort, so every journey feels natural, meaningful, and deeply connected to place.

Building the Boat

Crafted by Hand, Guided by the Sea

KLM Batara Baruna is built with patience, skill, and respect for tradition. Every piece of wood is carefully chosen, every detail shaped by experienced hands that understand the sea.
This vessel is not only made to sail—it is made to endure long journeys, changing conditions, and the quiet rhythm of life onboard.

The Phinisi Heritage

The Phinisi is a legacy born from the meeting of cultures—Eastern seamanship and Western naval influence in the 19th century. Strong, elegant, and unmistakably Indonesian, it has carried traders, sailors, and explorers across the archipelago for generations.
While materials and technology have evolved, the spirit remains the same. KLM Batara Baruna continues this story—honoring tradition while embracing modern luxury.

Roots & Waters

The origins of the Phinisi lie in South Sulawesi, where master boatbuilders refined hull designs to suit open seas and long distances. Knowledge of balance, speed, and strength was passed down through generations.
That same knowledge lives on in KLM Batara Baruna, now sailing toward Komodo, Raja Ampat, Bali, Lombok, and beyond.

Building Crew

The People Behind Batara Baruna

When we set out to build KLM Batara Baruna, we chose people who work with heart as much as with skill. Precision, dedication, and humility guide their craft.
They understand that this vessel will carry guests to places few ever reach and they build her with that responsibility in mind.

“A great vessel is shaped not only by materials, but by the spirit of those who build her.”

Born from Tradition

Batara Baruna was not only built — she was blessed.

In keeping with ancient maritime customs, a sacred blessing ceremony was performed during her construction. Through prayer, shared meals, and quiet reflection, the vessel was entrusted to the sea with hopes of protection, smooth voyages, and enduring harmony.

"It is believed that every ship carries a soul. Batara Baruna’s was shaped by tradition, devotion, and respect for the waters she now calls home".

in April 2026, a new story will rise from the sea. The Phinisi KLM Batara Baruna makes her long-awaited debut born from tradition, shaped by hand, and refined by modern elegance. Named in honor of Batara Baruna, the Balinese god who rules the sea and rain, this graceful vessel carries the spirit of Indonesia’s maritime soul. Crafted with patience and reverence in Tanah Beru, Bira, Bulukumba where shipbuilding is not merely a craft but a way of life Batara Baruna stands as a living testament to the harmony between heritage, nature, and the ocean she is destined to roam.
